Julian Bird, MD

Dr Bird is a British physician and psychiatrist in independent practice. Lately he was a Senior Lecturer in Liaison Psychiatry at Guy's, King's and St Thomas's Medical School in the University of London. Previously he was Visiting Professor of Liaison Psychiatry at the University of Alabama.

As a liaison psychiatrist Dr Bird works with physicians and surgeons helping patients who have both physical and psychological problems.

Dr Bird qualified as a doctor from Cambridge University and spent some years as a hospital physician and passed the membership examination of the Royal College of Physicians before switching to psychiatry.

Dr Bird has researched and taught communication skill for 25 years in both British and US medical schools and was awarded a British Medical Association Bronze Medal for this work. With Steven Cole he is co-author of a widely used communication training text book ‘The Medical Interview: the Three Function Approach’ now in its second edition.
In recent years Dr Bird was elected to Fellowships of both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
