PC/Mac Help with Videos, Notes Passwords & Browsers on Webcampus

About LOGGING INTO PASSWORD PROTCTED AREAS ON WEBCAMPUS:
Many areas of the Webcampus Medical Education Server require you to login. You will see a screen like the one below. Please follow the on-screen directions.

Students should continue to enter their Drexel University email username and password (the same as used for DrexelOne. e.g., "jds22"). Students who need their password reset should contact http://www.drexel.edu/computeraccounts or the Drexel IRT Help Desk at 215-895-2698; Mon - Fri; 9am - 5pm

Faculty and staff
may use EITHER their DrexelMed username/password OR their Drexel University username/password (e.g., "jsmith" or "jds22"). Faculty and staff who need help with their DrexelMed password should contact the College of Medicine IT HELP line at 215-762-1999.

Please note, there are some applications linked from Webcampus which use their own login system, such as the 3rd and 4th year ESS scheduling system. If you are at a clinical affiliate site and need access to curriculum materials, please contact the Division of Clinical Education at (215) 991-8360 to obtain an application.

"Remember my password" Should I check this box?
We advise that you do not check the box. This is very important if using a public computer such as one in the library. If you are using your personally owned computer, you may find it is more convenient to check the box, however be aware that once it is stored and you are logged onto your computer, anyone who uses your computer can now access areas with your login, since the computer remembers your password.

LOG OUT Don't Forget!
This is done simply by closing all web browser windows when you are finished.

About WEB BROWSERS:

We recommend all students accessing the curriculum resources from a Windows PC to use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 or higher.   Internet Explorer is available as a free download. To check your version of Internet Explorer, start Internet Explorer, at the very top menu, click "Help" and then click "About Internet Explorer".  The version will be displayed. (This is how you check the version of any program you are using.)

About POP-UP BLOCKERS:

Windows has it's own built-in pop-up blocker or you may have another pop-up blocker running.  Any good pop-up blocker will also let you "allow" pop-up windows from certain websites. You must allow pop-ups from the webcampus address. Include this as an allowed site    *.drexelmed.edu

To access the Windows Pop-up Blocker:
- Open Internet Explorer
- In the top menu, click on "Tools", then "Pop-up Blocker", then "Pop-up Blockler Settings..."
- If   *.drexelmed.edu    is NOT in the allowed sites list, then type   *.drexelmed.edu    in the
Address of Website to Allow box and click the "Add" button.

(Please note that the Yahoo toolbar and Google toolbar contain built-in pop-up blockers that also need to be set to allow pop-ups from webcampus.)

About MEDIA PLAYERS / PLAYING VIDEOS:

1st and 2nd year curriculum websites
All lecture videos are optimized for Window Media Player.  You should be using Windows Media Player version 11 or higher.   PCs running Windows will have some version of the Windows Media Player.  Check your version and if not 11, then please upgrade. Windows Media Player is also available for Macs or you can download the free Flip4Mac plugin (Windows Media Components for Quicktime) which will let you play Windows Media files. (See the yellow Mac Users box below)

To access a streaming video file simply click on the link (often the red movie camera icon). Next, you will be prompted to log-in (see About Password above). If the log-in box does not appear then you are already logged in. Next, a screen may appear before the video starts with the Terms and Conditions of Use. Please read these and if you agree, then click the "I Agree" button to continue. Next the Media Player should start up automatically.  If it doesn't, you probably need to download it.  Go to this link to download the latest version, www.microsoft.com/mediaplayer

The Terms and Conditions of Use will only appear the first time you access a video until you close your browser.
PLEASE, remember to always close all browser windows after you are finished!

NOTE:  If a video clip starts to play and you can hear the audio but do not see a picture, you may need to upgrade your version of Windows Media Player.  Click on this link www.microsoft.com/mediaplayer to get the latest version.

3rd and 4th year clerkship websites
These sites also contain a lecture bank of pre-recorded lectures. As in the 1st and 2nd year lectures, The Terms and Conditions of Use will only appear the first time you access a video until you close your browser. PLEASE, remember to always close all browser windows after you are finished!

There are primarily 2 types of delivery for these lectures:

  1. Window Media streaming video as described above.
  2. Slides with navigation controls at bottom.
For this format you will need Java. This is a free downlaod from Sun Java.
When you click on a lecture title, your browser will open and the lecture should begin. If the window is blank and a red X is in the corner, then you need to install Sun Java. This is a free download and it will not harm your PC. You can get Sun Java at http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp
  • Click on the Free Java Download button
  • Follow the on-screen instructions (you will need to allow Active-X to run)
  • When complete, click on the lecture title again. When the lecture starts, turn up your speakers. On your PC, make sure your master audio volume and Wav audio volume are also turned up.
  • Click once on the screen to activate the controls to go to next slide, previous slide, pause an play..
