Welcome from
the Dean's Office of Information Technology
and Technology in Medical Education (T.I.M.E.)

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Drexel University College of Medicine and to let you know about several exciting developments in the area of information technology, including the notebook/laptop computer requirement. Information technology is playing an increasingly more significant role in the lives and careers of physicians. At Drexel University College of Medicine, we have recognized this phenomenon, and the exit objectives for our graduating students include "employ information technology to research, critically select, utilize and present clinical information to enhance ongoing learning and clinical competence"

Our information technology group is part of the Dean's Office and we are referred to as T.I.M.E. - Technology In Medical Edcation. Our physcial office suite is located at Queen Lane in Room 114L. That's in the same office suite as Admissions and Student Affairs. We specifically work on technology projects for the College of Medicine, including educational websites and databases you'll be accessing throughout your next four years, streaming lecture videos and PDA handheld software to name a few. If you have specific questions or encounter problems with websites or technology you should contact us. In order to help you, we have an email address (time@drexel.edu) to which you can send a message.

In addition to our group there are two other information technology groups at Drexel University which you should be aware of:

1) Serving all colleges and schools at Drexel is a department called IRT (Information Resources and Technology). This group is responsible for systems such as email and domain accounts, registration for wireless access and running the campus network (not including the College of Medicine's secure network). IRT has many excellent resources to help you. Many of these resources are linked from this technology survival guide.

2) The other group is COM-IT (College of Medicine IT). Due to more stringent HIPAA regulations, the College of Medicine has it's own IT group which manages a secure network for the college, manages a faculty and staff email system and provides technical computer help for you.

We work with both the IRT and COM-IT groups to make the technology used in education at Drexel work seemlessly for you.  If you have any technical questions or ever experience any problems, please contact us.

Once again, welcome!
