Letters of Recommendation

General Information

Students may have letters of recommendation submitted on their behalf at any time during their medical school career. A file is kept in the Office of Student Affairs with the letters of recommendation that have been submitted to date.

Letters of Recommendation for Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

Letters of Recommadation submitted for a student's residency (ERAS) application must follow specific guidelines. Students should do the following when asking a faculty member to submit a letter for ERAS:

1. Decide whether the letter writer will write you a strong letter. Most letter writers will tell you whether or not they feel they can write a good letter on your behalf.

2. Complete a "Request for Letter of Recommendation/Cover Sheet",  and personally deliver it to your letter writer. Click here for Letter of Recommedation/Coversheet.  It is recommended that you waive your right to see the letter.

Please note: There are very specific instructions that letter writers must follow. Please use the sample letter request to prevent any delay in the processing of your letter.

3. Check the Office of Student Affairs Letter of Recommendation Tracking System (Drexel Med site) to see if the letter was received by the Office of Student Affairs. This DOES NOT mean that the letter has been uploaded to ERAS.

4. When the Applicant Document Tracking System (ADTS) is online, you may check to see if your letter has been uploaded by the Office of Student Affairs to your ERAS Applicant File. Once ADTS is reporting data (you will receive an email when this occurs), making sure that your letter is tracked on ADTS is MORE important than making sure that the letter appears on the Letter of Recommendation Tracking System.
