June Klinghofer's Bio Sketch:

June F. Klinghoffer graduated from The Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1938, received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and went on to earn her M.D. from the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania (WMC) in 1945. After completing an internship and residency at the Jewish Hospital (now Albert Einstein Medical Center), she returned to “Woman’s Med” for a fellowship in pathology. She was then appointed Clinical Assistant in Medicine and Director of Student Health Services at WMC in 1948.

Dr. Klinghoffer began her long tenure as Director of the junior clerkship in medicine in 1959, and was also Director of Student Teaching Programs for the Department of Medicine. She became Professor of Medicine in 1969 and was appointed the Ethel Russell Morris Chair in 1987. Dr. Klinghoffer’s years in active practice combined internal medicine and rheumatology. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Golden Apple and the Lindback awards.

June Klinghoffer was always a favorite of male students who were first admitted in 1970, but she has always been a particularly inspiring role model to women students and junior faculty. Her role as a mentor to young women physicians exemplifies the tradition founded at Woman’s Med in 1850 – a tradition that emphasizes excellence and opportunity for women in medicine
