Alcoholic Beverages at University Events
The Office of Student Affairs maintains student bulletin boards at Queen Lane located in the student lounge and by student mailboxes. All listings on the bulletin boards must be school related.
Students on clinical rotations in the various hospitals are responsible for becoming acquainted with the fire response policies of those individual institutions. Students should inquire about the fire safety policies at each hospital in which they rotate.
Students are responsible for learning and following the food control policy at each site in which they study or rotate. Only those food and beverage items that are properly packaged for carrying in disposable containers and carrying trays can be removed from the food service area to other parts of the building. Food service trays should not be removed from the Cafeteria. Other institutions and building facilities have similar but not identical policies.
Hospital or Clinic Areas
The participation of medical students' guests in activities related to or in areas of patient care is prohibited. Patient comfort and confidentiality preclude guest participation.
No guns are permitted on University property.
University -recognized holidays and vacation breaks for all students are listed on the academic calendar. (see Academic Calendar)
Information Technology: Acceptable Use Policy
At the time of obtaining a Drexel e-mail account, each user agrees to an acceptable use policy. A user’s account may be inactivated if there is a violation of the acceptable use policy. Disciplinary or other sanctions may be levied.
The institution's patent policy includes students in its scope. Students who are considering applying for patents and/or who wants to review a copy of the policy and discuss its requirements should contact the Office of Research Administration.
It is the responsibility of the individual student to secure personal belongings properly while on University and hospital premises. The institution assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property.
The University is not liable for damage sustained to vehicles, loss of personal property from vehicles, or theft of vehicles parked on University or affiliated hospital property. Students who park their vehicles on any institutional lot assume responsibility for loss, damage or theft.
Pets are not permitted in any University buildings. A pooper-scooper and carry away policy applies to any pets visiting the property of our campuses and "using" the outdoors "facilities."
All East Falls and Center City Campus and hospital sites are Smoking-restricted facilities. Smoking is not permitted inside any University or hospital building by students, faculty, employees, volunteers, patients or visitors. Specific outdoor locations are designated as areas for smoking, and cigar/cigarette disposal resources are located at those sites. Please don’t leave cigarette butts on the ground or sidewalks. Deposit them in designated containers.
Snow / Weather Emergency Policy
The closing number for the Queen Lane Medical Campus, including Biomedical Science Graduate Programs and the IMS/MMS/MSP Programs is SCHOOL CODE 213.
THE SCHOOL CLOSING NUMBER DOES NOT APPLY TO 3RD AND 4TH YEAR STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO CLINICAL ROTATIONS.
3RD AND 4TH YEAR STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO CLINICAL ROTATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT FOR PATIENT CARE DUTIES UNLESS INSTRUCTED NOT TO REPORT. Each clinical rotation will determine its policy concerning students and it is the student’s responsibility to contact their supervising faculty member or clerkship coordinator. Students are expected to report to clinical assignment as soon as it is safe to travel.
Medical students are responsible for covering the costs of telephone calls they make from the school of medicine or its affiliated educational sites. All students are encouraged to have a cellular phone in order to facilitate handling the cost of any long distance calls they may make. Members of the staff in the Office of Student Affairs in Philadelphia, the Dean's Office in Pittsburgh, and the Offices of the Directors of Medical Education at other affiliated clinical training sites, may, upon a student's request, permit the student to make long distance calls to address a personal or family emergency, or to assist a student in handling selected school business. Such school business might, for example, include solving financial aid problems which are urgent, making calls to the Clerkship Office to arrange elective course schedules, or working with designated staff to find a residency position for those students not attaining a residency "match." Calls to other medical schools regarding elective or other medical study opportunities are the student's responsibility. Telecommunications policies for obtaining outside lines for local or long distance calls may differ at each clinical teaching site. It is the student's responsibility to learn the policy at each site and to abide by that policy.
UTILIZATION GUIDELINES FOR SELECTED FACILITIES
Hospital Facilities
Medical students in the first two years of the curriculum are involved in learning clinical skills as well as the basic sciences. These students are encouraged to work with their advisers and other faculty mentors to gain opportunities to participate in and/or to observe clinical activities. The emergency room, operating rooms or delivery rooms are open only to those medical students who are with a resident or faculty member, or to those third-and-fourth-year students engaged in clinical rotations using those sites. The number of individuals, especially observers, in these areas must be restricted in order to maintain the comfort and safety of the patients and their families and to dispense high quality medical care.
Queen Lane Campus
Certain policies have been established to help assure the safety and security of students and faculty using the facility at nights and on weekends. It is asked that students not move chairs and tables around, return cafeteria trays from the seminar rooms or outdoor sites to the cafeteria and remove any waste or left-over food for proper disposal. The video systems in the seminar rooms and laboratories are for educational use only. The television in the student lounge is the one intended for recreational use. Please respect the College of Medicine Campus and the few guidelines established to facilitate its use.
