The concepts of "doc.com" in a nutshell: This unique resource provides its users with knowledge, skills review, and opportunities for reflection. It also fosters learning about complex communication and relationship challenges. Each of 41 learning modules presents key principles, evidence-based recommendations, and a skills checklist. Authors demonstrate key skills in video encounters with standardized patients and provide video and text commentary on the interview. The interview challenges help learners develop sensitivity to differing communication styles and difficult situations, and the flexibility to respond respectfully and skillfully.
System Requirements : Most Macintosh and Windows Systems. multi-media capable computer, pop-up menus must be enabled, newest version of QuickTime must be installed.
Acknowledgements: This project
was made possible through the generous support of the Arthur Vining Davis
Foundations, and we are very grateful to Program Directors Cheryl Tupper
and Ann O'Keefe and Executive Director Jonathan Howe. Drexel University College of Medicine also contributed
substantial resources to ensure the success of this project. We are indebted
to former Dean Steve Klasko, and Vice Dean for Education Barbara Schindler.
The leaders of the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare have been
generous in sharing their time and wisdom, and we especially thank Beth Lown
and Rob Shochet. We appreciate input from Geoff Gordon and Fred Platt. Their
marvelous handbook, the "Field Guide to the Difficult Patient Interview" was
derived from the same list of competencies developed by AACH faculty. Many
