SCIENCE EXPLORERS

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:

Science Explorers is an interactive science program led by Drexel medical students.  The mission of Science Explorers is to deliver unique, hands-on science experiments propelled by an active, inquiry-based learning process to underserved populations of K-9th grade students.  The program has two fundamental goals:

    1. To introduce and/or reinforce general scientific principles based on grade-level objectives through active experimentation by student participations.
    2. To increase involvement of medical students with underserved populations in an effort to improve principles of cultural competency.

LOCATIONS:

Science Explorers is held at two different sites.  In West Philadelphia, it is led at Blankenburg Elementary School, with seventh graders.  In North Philadelphia, it is led for the after-school program of the Althea Gibson Community Education and Tennis Center.

TIME COMMITMENT:

Science Explorers is scheduled for seven sessions on Wednesday afternoons (except for exam and holiday weeks) for two hours.
