Pediatric Play Program

of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children

 

Description of Program:

St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children is located at Erie and Front in North Philadelphia.  Medical students provide a variety of activities and services to decrease the anxiety of children and their family members who must wait in the Emergency Department for treatment.  Students will work under the supervision of the Child Life Specialists and must attend a training session at the hospital before scheduling their four required times.  Training sessions are held in September and January.  In addition, students will be expected to complete a journal entry for each site visit, to be turned in to  the Office of Community Experience.

Time Commitment and Expectations:

Students will be expected to attend the E.D. for four sessions (3-4 hours each, depending on the shift), and complete a journal entry for each visit.  Shifts are scheduled for evening hours, most nights of the week.  Students are expected to complete a journal entry for each session.
