"I enjoyed getting to know the children at Mifflin because they came from a background much different from my own.  It highlighted the difference the environment makes on one's future.  It was wonderful to see that if properly encouraged in class, the kids were very vocal and liked to participate, always sharing very bright ideas and asking very good questions."

Health Promotion and Injury Prevention

Description of Program

In Health Promotion and Injury Prevention (HPIP), medical students team-teach health education to first-through-sixth graders.  Teachers  choose from a variety of health-related subjects, and the medical student teams design a curriculum around those issues.  Lesson plans are  interactive.  While some of the classroom time may be spent in a large group, for the rest of the time, each medical student works with a group of about five children.
