Information for U.S. Medical Students Seeking Elective Rotations at Drexel University College of Medicine

All courses currently offered through DUCOM are listed in the 2012-2013 Senior Course Catalog, available on-line at http://webcampus.drexelmed.edu/clinicaleducation/seniorelectives.  If you are interested in pursuing an elective course at Drexel University College of Medicine, please address correspondence to the Division of Clinical Education. DUCOM does not use the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS).

No housing is provided by Drexel University College of Medicine.

 

Policies for Visiting Students:

• All students must be enrolled in an Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited medical school (United States or Canadian) and in, or beginning, the final (senior) year of medical school.  Please refer to current directory of LCME-accredited schools published by the AAMC: http://www.lcme.org/directry.htm. DUCOM will not accept students in a "Fifth Pathway Program."
• All students must have completed one year of clinical training, including the following clerkships: Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics in an LCME-accredited medical school as noted above.  Third year core clerkships are not available to visiting students.
• All students must be covered by malpractice insurance and personal health insurance and provide documentation to DUCOM.
• A DUCoM Visiting Student Immunization Record Form must be completed. Please complete Form, do not send copies of records unless requested. You may not substitute an alternate form.
• Completed application, including the Dean of Students at the visiting student’s school certification that the student is in good academic standing and has permission to take the elective(s). No modifications may be made to the application.
• No visiting student may complete more than 12 weeks total of elective experience at Drexel University College of Medicine.
• All students must submit a non-refundable application processing fee of $50.00 for each rotation.  Make the check payable to Drexel University College of Medicine.  Payment must be in US currency; Check/Money Order must be drawn from a US bank. If applying prior to June 1, you must date check for June 1 or your application will be returned. In the event of a returned check: A $50 money order will be required to replace the check and a processing fee of $50 via money order will be charged. Student's Dean's Office will be notified if student does not respond. Rotation may be cancelled.
• No approved elective may be dropped within six-weeks of the start of the rotation.
• Do not fax application or materials unless directed to do so by the Division of Clinical Education.

 

Some visiting U.S. students may wish to schedule an elective rotation at one of our affiliated educational institutions.  With the exception of those listed below, contact the Division of Clinical Education.  Should you wish to do an elective rotation at one of the following clinical sites, please contact the following individuals at their respective hospitals:

Visiting student requests are processed on a first received-first filled basis, beginning on June 1 of each year for rotations beginning in July.  No applications will be accepted until March 1 of the academic year; however, they are reviewed beginning in June in the order they were received and notifications will not be made until that time.  All arrangements should be completed six-weeks prior to the start of the rotation. If your rotation request cannot be honored, you will be notified and your check will be destroyed. If you are placed into one of your selections, you will be notified and your check will be cashed.
