All 3rd and 4th year medical students at Drexel University College of Medicine are required to log all patient encounters in each of their required courses and clerskhips (Family Medicine, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Surgery, Neiurology and the Internal Medicine Subinternship). In order to ensure that these logs are as accurate as possible, students are urged to record all patient encounters as soon as possible, and therefore the use of a mobile phone with a web browser is recommended. However, because of the recent decline in availability of standalone personal digital assistants (PDAs), students are no longer required to have a PDA. The Clerkship Companion program, used for logging patient encounters, will be available as a web-based application, optimized for mobile web browsers. Thus, it will be possible to record patient encounters using any mobile phone, computer, or other device that has Internet access. You do not have to install the Clerkship Companion program on your device, and when you log patient data, the data will be uploaded directly to the central database at the school, so you will not have to synchronize your device to your notebook computer. You can verify that your Internet-connected device is capable of running the Clerkship Companion software by navigating to the following URL on your device: On or about June 15th, 2009, the 0910 version of the Clerkship Companion program will be available on the website. If you have any questions concerning this handheld computer requirement, please contact us.
